Welcome to Christian Volunteer Movement, a non-denominational Christian mission and development organization serving the people of The Gambia, West Africa. We specialize in ecumenical short-term mission initiatives which we hope will impact both the participant and the recipient.
The image of the boy and the fish is reflective of our ethos in two ways. First, it reminds us that it is through development that we will be able to alleviate the socio-economic challenges that face the world. The axiom, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime”, reflects our desire to build capacity within the people we are working with. This boy who caught the fish is the hope of the next generation. Secondly, in the parable of the loaves and the fish, it was a boy who came forward to Jesus and offered what he had. God was able to transform this small thing, a sacrifice for the boy, into enough to feed the masses. In the same way you may be asking yourself, “What do I have to offer in regards to making the world a better place?” We firmly believe that in the same way, whatever sacrifice you make in building the kingdom of God - whether as a volunteer overseas, in your financial gift, or in your time in prayer - that God will multiply it and it will have a great impact in meeting the needs of people all around the world. Everyone has something to offer.
